GARY WHITTA
is an award-winning screenwriter and author best known as the writer of the post-apocalyptic thriller THE BOOK OF ELI starring Denzel Washington, and as co-writer of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. He also co-wrote the Will Smith sci-fi action movie AFTER EARTH with M. Night Shyamalan, but he doesn’t really talk about that.
Gary also wrote multiple episodes of the award-winning animated TV series STARS WARS REBELS, and served as writer and story consultant on Telltale Games’ adaptation of THE WALKING DEAD, for which he won a BAFTA award for Best Narrative.
As an author, his first novel, ABOMINATION, was published in 2015 to critical acclaim. GUNDOG, his second novel, was met with universal acclaim both as a novel and serialized audio adaptation which reached #1 in sci-fi and fiction podcast charts around the world. He also co-edited the science fiction short story anthology RESIST: TALES FROM A FUTURE WORTH FIGHTING AGAINST and contributed to the anthologies STAR WARS FROM A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW and FROM A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
In comics, Gary co-created and wrote the original eight-part miniseries BATMAN: FORTRESS for DC Comics, adapted STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, and wrote Image Comiucs’ DEATH, JR. which won the American Library Award for Best Graphic Novel for Teens. He also contributed to DC’s anthology celebrating 80 years of The Joker.
His most recent project, the scripted audio comedy series SEE YOU IN HELL has become a breakout hit, breaking into Apple Podcasts’ Top 10 (Fiction) with just its first episode.
Gary was also the creator and host of the viral online series ANIMAL TALKING, a live celebrity talk show that took place entirely within Nintendo’s ANIMAL CROSSING and featured celebrity guests such as Selena Gomez, Brie Larson, T-Pain, Gorillaz, and Sting. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two daughters.
